Red in the Face – A Poem by Kelly D. Tolman

Posted by admin on May 22, 2009

Another kind of heat
that turns a would be
man red.  The fire is
all inside and hurts worse
than the flame of death.
the burning of hell it
seems would be less
than the pain I cause
myself by the burning
of embarrassment.

I’m Sorry – A Poem by Kelly D. Tolman

Posted by admin on May 15, 2009

Don’t worry about it.
I say that a lot.
What I mean is,
Ignore me while I
Gather my thoughts.
Don’t embarass me
Right now.  I know
Its not your intent,
But I feel so ashamed
That you’ve uncovered
My heart.  I just
Can’t bear for you to
Tear it.  What?
You like me anyway?

Farm Shadow – By Kelly D. Tolman

Posted by admin on May 1, 2009

The day the shadow

came, the rabbit froze.

We found the tiny body

like and ice-cream cake,

waiting.

The shadow blight

spread like pollen on the legs

and wings of black bees;

touching, filling, infecting

matter.

With gree rot in its green

gut, the shadow fell

like silk on the farm.

The chickens flipped

like pancakes on Sunday,

mourning.

The hands wrought

in shadow from light

to wake the brown cows

who slept the way people

do without black

coffee.

Steady as a broken heart,

the shadow flits on memory

until the fish inside swim

up the cold pebble path

back to the barn

burning.

The shadow left when the rabbit

thawed in the noon darkness,

and the wild fish drowned

in the wake of warm cow

pollen.

Life In A Week – By Kelly D. Tolman

Posted by admin on April 15, 2009

Sunday philosophy.

Monday desperately
needs Tuesday’s
bright sunshine.

Wednesday stands free
of good or evil.

Thursday destiny.

Because Friday’s
choice must be made
before Saturday.

Happy? – A Poem by Kelly D. Tolman

Posted by admin on April 10, 2009

Smiles soft as summer days.
Now red as if painted on.
The mark placed here will never fade.
Its twisted visage grows bleak
And almost streaks away.
Bubbling now this smile grows
To cover, blend in deathly haze
Running down, spreading out
This smile dances, smudges, plays.
A gross mark to end all smiles.

Did You Ever Want To Be A Pig Boy – By Kelly D. Tolman

Posted by admin on April 3, 2009

Did you ever want to be a pig boy? I did.

And live the pig boy’s dream.

To chase and wander and do

All those pig boy things.

Did you ever want to be a maid? I did

Who lived in the scullery, and learned

The secret mysteries that saved

The world and saw the sorceress burned.

What about a widow’s son? The kind

Whose luck outmatches all his brains.

That stumbles on the magic tree

And both princess and kingdom gains?

Or tailor or farmer or glorious fool?

Who slew the giant and told stories

To the dragon? That saved the king

Found the loot, and took the glory?

Please tell me you have,

For I know that I have,

and dreamers this world needs.

Without us, we’re done for.

We need heroes to send forth

And do all the daring deeds.

The Children – A Poem by Kelly D. Tolman

Posted by admin on March 20, 2009

They danced.
They sang.
They screamed

She pushed him.
He pushed back.

She cried.
He yelled.
They hugged.

She got a truck.
He got a doll.
He pulled.
She pushed.
They traded.
They played.

An hour later they did it again.

Being Heard – A Poem by Kelly D. Tolman

Posted by admin on February 27, 2009

I do not hurt enough to write poetry,
Nor do I love enough to try.
I have not the happiness of soul.
But there is a need.  LISTEN
to my little voice.  I will be
HEARD.  The violence is not
strong enough, the passion was not
long enough.  If I can raise my
voice LOUD enough, none of the
rest will really matter because by
then you will KNOW who
I am.  My desire will be
satisfied and people will
CALL me a poet.

Psychology – A Poem by Kelly D. Tolman

Posted by admin on February 18, 2009

Psychology is mutiny.  Scientists
Ponder endlessly how
People find insanity.  Looks and
Peeks mechanically for ways to
Part such strange disease and
Pen it all psychology.
