Clipped Wings – A Poem by Kelly D. Tolman

Posted by admin on June 4, 2010

We teach a child to sing
And he sings.
We ask a bird to sing
And she sings.

Then we clip her wings.
Then we tell him “no.”
So she can’t fly
And he doesn’t fly.

For safety,
So she doesn’t leave
The world we want him to know
Behind.
To do
What she was born to do
What he was born to do.

To My Son – A Poem by Kelly D. Tolman

Posted by admin on May 29, 2010

I see you.
Do you see me.
What do you see?

I hear you
But you don’t speak.
What do you say?

I touch you.
You shrink away.
What do you feel?

I reach out.
You reach out.
We don’t connect.

You cry.
You are sad
And lonely.

I cry.
I want to
reach you.

You cry.
I cry.
I love you.

I cry
You cry.
You love me.

Somehow
Someway
I want to be your Daddy.

The Children – A Poem by Kelly D. Tolman

Posted by admin on March 20, 2009

They danced.
They sang.
They screamed

She pushed him.
He pushed back.

She cried.
He yelled.
They hugged.

She got a truck.
He got a doll.
He pulled.
She pushed.
They traded.
They played.

An hour later they did it again.
